"Our first pawns were cleared too quickly, except for the mantoid. If he only knew we sent the dreaming spiders to steal him to his current allies?" The psiologist's eyes narrow. She whispers to Kri "Tell us of your clutch before us and how and why you were hunting here in the first place. WHO gave you the job to come here?"
She thinks a moment... "You said the spider layed a trap in the undercity of Urik for you? Seems the phase spider didn't act on her own after all..."

The kreen thinks back to his first clutch. He maje a real effort to speak loud and clear.
"@#$ The clutch was mixed, even more than this one. We were working for a big trading house, house Shom. And the leader of the house Shom managed to poison a obsidian orb which was devoured by the necromancer King. Later we followed Dote Mal Paine with the remains of the necromancer king ....%$#@"

The half giant nods and continues to listen to Laakh's telling of the conversation...

"Speaking of getting caught? You feel that?"
Inhales. Sighs.
"Mmm-hmm. Ironic, eh? The ones that don't like being spied on are often the most guilty themselves, huh?"
They giggle and start stumble off to the east. With a snap of fingers? The fire quenches.
Laahk finally recalls. These voices sound much like the ones he heard in Nibenay, what feels like so long ago, just prior to investigating the dream spider den in the Stone City...
Cue flashback:
Strangely enough, easily said and done. The music & singing is actually softer at this level. A pair of dark hooded, face covered, portly, "men" for the lack of a better word, stumble by. They reek of incense and dried tobac. Smoke rings trail behind them. You hear a snippet of conversation between the two. "Do you think that sky-rock portends any new future?" The other responds in an odd voice that waxes between masculine and feminine. "Well, the life-changers haven't lit the beacon yet, so unless it's a celestial tease?" They both laugh as they stroll off into the dark. "Celestial tease... that's a good one..."

"Impressive: not only did they know they were being scryed upon, they knew it was US." HurK frowns " Shame... I would've liked to speak with them a bit... But what are life-changers and this beacon?"

Pallia shrugs. "You've run into these two before?" she asks. "Do you know anything about what they want or where they are from?"

<Good to hear your consciousness Elder!!! Earlier, when exactly? If you only now could contact us, perhaps the tower is shielded from the way?
We were able to evade Templar Deminue’s hunting party for now. She has a contingent of half giants with odd back riders, Halflings maybe? and what looks to be two psions or maybe defilers hunting us. Thanks to your and your kreen friend’s generous donation of the webbing we’ve made it to the buried city but witnessed a few settlements be destroyed by them on our tail, no doubt looking for us: War continues to follow us.
As to the Kalak, Wyan and Dote Mal Payne hunt, we’ve begun exploring the largest tower from the top down. The walls are impenetrable to phasing so we have to search the mundane way. Only the first floor is cleared thus far and are currently resting on the roof for our sun cleric. We fought strange acidic spitting spiders but found no food source for them. We suspect they may be pets and/or guard creatures. Their acidic spittle ruined a few of our groups webbing so we'll need to collect more once we get back to Bodach. We also believe the tower’s owner: Aman the Fallen, may still be roaming it’s halls…
What news of Tyr and the three armies Elder?>
<"I tried to contact you perhaps four hours ago. But first things first. Many of the older important ruins and buildings from the Ages of High Mentalists? They were strengthened in ways that prevent some communication, scrying or meddle with 'portation and sometimes even certain magics. It's one of the reasons why the Order is wary to explore such places, as the dead aren't often easily contacted via the mind... and those are the major defenders, ancient unliving lords or ladies that hold such grounds.
While Aman the Fallen is not known to me? I can see if the records hold anything interesting. It might take some time, my presence has swayed the quorum in the favor of neutrality once more. I expect given a few more weeks you will be all but forgotten... well, except for Shammu herself. But I shall exert my energies to keep her busy enough.
Tyr is in an odd... state.
Two days ago? A trio of armies met - Balic, Urik and Nibenay at her walls. Before any fighting began in earnest? The Dragon itself took the field from the east. Once the terror and general malaise passed? The siege was abandoned almost as soon as she was begun... we believe that negotiations were made or some fell pact sealed.
Hamanu has only retreated as far as the most northern fort, Nibenay's foot has retreated towards Gulg and the Balician forces are starting a march towards Altaruk, perhaps even further south. It is way to soon to tell where everyone's final destination may be, but the slaughter we expected was less - amounting to sacrifices to the fell beast from all three opposing camps, perhaps just to quench it's hunger.">

Laakh fumes and wishes for a Summon Planar Creature situation. You can almost hear his mental gears spinning.
"Those ...people... Shom agents or I'm a fool. Moving game pieces (including us) around the board to... poison ol' Kalak, bring his corpsefucker Dote up here to make him a Dead Lord or some such. And beacons and life changers... the sky rock anything but a tease, more like the very thing to stir all this up? Shom types are rich enough to bring down giant rocks from the skies for all I know. Krik, you say they hired you, the lone survivor. Then they bring you to us via spider...Please show me all your adornments, even scraps of rags or lucky pebbles. I want to have a look."
He produces the Skull of Kripnar.
"old sir, have your people heard tales of life changers, beacons, or large things falling from the skies, harbingers of great change?"

While researching Aman and this city tower we're in, could you also look up anything on Wyan and Dote Mal Paine as well. We need to know what we’re dealing with when we come across them.We also just encountered two hooded 'portly' pipe smoking beings east of the city proper. Laakh was able to scry briefly on them... "How curious," says Pallia. "These two pipe-smokers seem to know a great deal, yet their motives are inscrutable."
The priestess takes the opportunity to unlimber her traveling knapsack and she takes out some flour and a sprinkle of water and starts kneading it into dough to make flatbread.
"I suppose... if we can't do anything about them... then they are simply a distraction for now. We should continue exploring this tower, see what we can discover, after we've eaten."

<"Dote Mal was Kalak's necromancer. He is not nearly old enough to be in the histories we have access to. Wyan? The fae killer? He hailed from Bodach... you'd probably learn more truths if you were to talk to those you bartered with there.
-Pause-
Let me think about this pair of conspirators for a bit. Does the kreen know them? If you get more details, let us talk more of it the next time. For now? Contact me immediately if you meet them in person.">

You eat. It's nice to have fresh food interspersed with the druidically provided grub every now and then.
***
Second shift:
Hurk finally manages to get some rest for a bit...
Only to be awakened by hellish screams. Startled awake, he looks about to see no one else is hearing them.
It sounds like a tortured halfling... Khuv? Five solid minutes of mental screaming with no reply when you try to speak back.
You really don't get the best rest this evening.
