Continue down through the water at power score double speed

15 feet and one round pass as you are completely encased in bedrock as you are under the water source.

Hawkings spends 2 more rounds of double speed, searching in the water where it may be coming from (a horizontal tunnel or passage perhaps) then opens a small sized oval dimensional portal 5' next to the hole's large clay bricks on the hardpack floor, steps through, then first shuts off the portal then phase.
[Dimensional Door 16, rolled 2.
8 rounds of exploration phasing: 48 psp 1 round of D.D.: 4 psp -69 PsP's]
Once the disorientation passes, Hawkings exhaustedly puts out his torch as he gives the group a full rundown of everything he saw.

Seeing a smallish portal appear near the well, Quila trains her notched arrow on it apprehensively. She visibly relaxes again, loosening her bowstring somewhat, when Hawkings appears.
While the halfling is recounting his experience down the well, Quila quickly peeks down the well herself to ascertain whether it has all right angles going down or not, and then does some quick tallying based on her merchant experiences and mutters to herself "so that well is 5 feet in diameter, times 7 feet waterlevel, making for 35 cubic feet of water at least. And one of those is roughly 7 something gallons which makes this well contain over 250 gallons."
Looking quite amazed and beaming she says a bit louder "This water supply could allow one person, if used smartly, to drink for over a year. That is, if it is not replenished by a source deeper underground, and one can actually reach the water." Looking down the well again, she adds "So how can we make this contraption actually reach the water again?"
(Bob: are there any notches in the walls where the contraption as a whole is mounted which could raise or lower it? or anything else suggesting the portability of such a construct?)

"Good question," says Calidane. "Seems that the water has receded far enough that this device would have to be lowered... but you'd need an engineer to do that."

"Can we not unmount a bucket and attach it to a rope instead? For that we probably would not need an engineer." says Quila to the male half-elf.

"Well, sure, but your initial question was about how we could make the contraption work again."

- Valmera smiles with Quila's comments and adds after Calidane - What about if we dismantle one of the spindle stations to extend the deep of the plank chain? In regard to the amount of pouches, we can repair the ones and maybe add more with clay ones, even all if the ones already are beyond repair. I might need to glaze and cook them to avoid them to be affected by the water in the long term. - looking to everyone - It will give us some starting point and a base to gather other sources in the time been - the elven woman stops for a second - What do you think?

"I like the idea Valmera," Quila nods approvingly.
Looking around to Mohktli and the unnamed beastmaster and half-elf and then focusing on Hawkings again, she speaks "but what about the safety, given Hawking's encounter with the building across the street? I feel it would be wise to investigate and secure the three connected warehouses and make sure we can close the outer gate and bar the doors. And see what is at the other side of the wall and investigate the oddly shaped obelisk building and the poles outside."
She pauses and continues "well that is my advice to you all. Since I am not really a part of your troupe and only a fellow House Maraneth 'citizen' (Quila puts a teasing emphasis on that word). However, as I asked master Mohktli already before, is it okay to join your troupe?" Quila looks around the room again and lookes hopefully to Mohktli, Valmera, and Hawkings.

"I would welcome your company, and I vote yes to securing this building complex; I am Ibubesi."
(Ibubesi moves to stare down the well/cistern.)
(He looks back) "But how shall we guard it when we are away?"

Quila nods deferentially towards Ibubesi. "Thank you for the confidence and welcome that you extend to me Ibubesi." "As to guarding this, we could at least put back the planks covering it, no? And then maybe find a way to weigh them down so no one can peer inside the well."
(Bob: is there a way to cover the well with planks that leave no room to peek inside?)
"But is that really what we are afraid of? I, myself, am more concerned about the proximity of this place to the building Hawkings warned us about, and the poles near the gate and wall. Before we leave I would definitely want to investigate both of those too." Quila looks to Hawkings and Valmera too again, and asks "What were you out here in the old city for anyway?" and laughs, and smiles towards Mohktli "I know Master Mohktli came out here to smash something."

"I spoke of not just the well, but the compound itself. The Orb concerns me not - a building that guards itself is worth investigating later, but makes for a pleasant enough neighbor."

Hawkings will be able to tell the rest that the water heads towards the street and then directly away.
As far as the water wheel? If you could reposition the posts towards the top downward enough for the buckets to touch water? It might be feasible... like boring new holes further down and then reassembling the machine. This would definitely need engineering work - and perhaps a carpenter, given that something is likely to break. There is also the issue of water quality. The murkiness of the remaining well water leads one to believe that this might not be the perfect well. Also, lowering the posts might require you to dig the edge around the well lip down an equal number of feet as to allow one to work the mechanism and still reach liquid.
Of course you may cover it once again. It's been left undisturbed for quite a while already. You think that if the threats in this section of the runs were dealt with and if others settled nearby, there might eventually be an issue. But that is not today.
So we have a few things to possibly explore, perhaps:
- the other similar buildings in this corner - the poles, gate or strange building that affected Hawkings - the threat of the basilisks nearby - or...?

The dwur (dwarven) axeman nods at appropriate intervals durning this discussion. To everyone:
"So...Quila joins us trying to carve out our own chunk of this broken city. Make this old water works start up, or hunt them deadbois, or capture beasties for the pit fights... Righto we need to check out this whole place, and all the surrounding things -except what's beyond those locked gates. Locked for good reasons, Mokka thinks. Scope all corners, Bax and you tricksy ones poke around, us warriors and the big cats ready to rumble. But first,
"Hawk, buddy. How close did you get to them orbs and the pointy building?"
