The half giant winces to himself then turns to the commotion that is Mak "AYYY! Watch Laakh in there, he's unaware of what's going on AND keeping us afloat!"

[Any healing spell will do to disrupt the temporary damage incurred.]
Mak's prayer brings the dark creature back to consciousness.
"Why?" It states simply as it's head regards the halfling druid.

[Any healing spell will do to disrupt the temporary damage incurred.] Mak's prayer brings the dark creature back to consciousness. "Why?" It states simply as it's head regards the halfling druid. Mak responds to the spider, "All life is precious and your death is not necessary for our own continued survival. Neither will you owe us any debt other than to release your claim on the life of the kreen you brought with you and go from this place in peace." Mak turns on his heel so the point of his spear is directed toward the spider. "Do agree to these terms?"Mak keeps Laahk and Victory in his peripheral vision as he interacts with the spider.

Pallia keeps a cool, gentle hand on Victory's arm. "The matter is handled for now. That was a ferocious blow that you gave to the spider. I believe we can rest easy for the moment... though I suspect, from what little I know of you, that you are not the kind to ever let down your guard."Victory's gaze remains focused on Pallia as he raises it from the floor. He does his best to casually not turn his back on HurK while giving Mak an annoyed "oh, how cute" glance. The look on his face changes from ashamed to annoyed to concerned as he is led above decks. Once he believes he is out of earshot, he leans in to whisper in Pallia's ear "This half-giant is possibly the most unstable that I've met. Granted, I've never spent more than maybe a 1000 breaths in their presence. I've spent weeks with this one and this day wasn't the first where I've seen him go from friendly to feral in breaths. In fact, when I first met him, he went from helpful to hostile within the initial exchange. I was fleeing captivity in Nibenay when I first met Masters Coden, Khuv and Laakh and they had in their possession this half-giant bookslave they call HurK. At first, he was helpful, hoisting me from the waste tunnel, though after Master Khuv poked a hole in space so we could escape, he turned angry and hostile yelling at Master Laakh and I for our hesitance to flee. Was I supposed to just run as Master Coden, who at the time had no clue who I am mind you, fought the trouble I had brought upon them? Where would be my honor in that? I wouldn't be nearly so concerned about one unstable bookslave if it hadn't been for the things I've witnessed him do-- I mean, what fool selects a half-giant for a bookslave and then teaches them the Way. Have you heard the stories of the 'Colossus of Ledo' I have witnessed him from this very deck *Victory points to the spot on the deck where he stood in awe amidst the deckhands as HurK towered over the Gambit* And now-- you've witnessed it yourself did you not?! He calls for the death of the spider then ingloriously assaults me with the Way in the defense of its life! That silly little cannibal too, defending the life of that spider, why not ask if it also wants its meal back? How would the kreen feel about that?" Victory clutches Pallia like Linus with his blanket and raises his head turning to look for the kreen bellowing "Krik- uh, KREEN!! what are your thoughts on letting the spider live? Would it have been so kind to you if we hadn't crossed paths?"

It responds.
"We can be civil. Yes. We can. Warn you too."
A leg-tip points in Laahk's direction and then towards where Hurk lurks above deck.
"Carrying our webs? Yes. It hides. But not from us, those who spin. I will not be the last to find you - and not all my sisters speak your tongue."
With that, it pops out of sight, eggs and most of the webs included. Some bits remain on Kri-kcht and his gear.

Laakh stretches luxuriously in the dreamscape and plops another grape in his mouth, savoring the juicy decadence. Time passes slowly as the silk curtains billow with cooling breezes and court musicians play a ballad of dueling friends. He enjoys the tale of two opposing viewpoints as Lilim strokes his forehead. He may never leave this wonderful place...

"Well you learn something everyday..."
Mak will make sure to let Hurk know that the webbing protects from scrying but is easily detectable by the spiders who make it. Probably explains why one ended up porting into our hold.

"Nice work Mak! Yeah, we've been learning a lot about them and their ecology..." HurK says nodding as he looks into the empty hold to confirm the auditory popping sound "Come say hello to our new kreen guest."
Turning to the Thri-Kreen "Welcome Kri-kcht. My name is HurK, first of my clutch. I..." he stops to think a moment "I think you'd call me a Tek-chakak? One of our pack's Psionicist's" He bows

Mak climbs up the stairs to the main deck and waves to the Kreen. "Greetings. I am called 'Mak'. I'm afraid I don't speak your native tongue or know the customs of your people. I apologize should my behavior cause offense, please know I mean you no ill will."
Looking to Hurk he comments, "Well, that was unexpected. Luckily that spider could speak and understand the common trade language. Perhaps we should do away with any remaining spider silk so that we no longer attract their attentions?"

Perhaps we should do away with any remaining spider silk so that we no longer attract their attentions?" "Agreed. That would explain why the two I tried to parlay with months ago, didn't respond. Won't make that mistake again of thinking a humanoid face means communication."
HurK looks to everyone on board "Just got mental word from Elder Shardavan: DoorJam is no longer tracking us but the two slaver templars still are. The reason he's left the hunt is that he's heading home. The shadow king has convinced Hamanu and Andropinus to wage war against the Dragon and march on Tyr as we speak. We've been told to lay low until this madness passes... Though we need to be prepared if the two templars and cilopses... or is it cilop-I? Show up as suddenly as the phase spider did..."Sitting down on the forward bow he Turns to Victory to address the mekillot in the room. "We Good? Or would you rather get off at Balic? No one here is trapped nor a slave and anyone can leave if they wish."

"I don't know! I wouldn't know if we were good even if you told me we were!" Victory bellows as he begins pacing on the balls of his feet scanning those present looking for the elves. "Haske! Yiska!! You both saw him that night, I saw you, I know you felt it too!"
Victory spins about, still clutching his security blanket Pallia in his left arm while looking for the kreen "What about you kreen? You must've heard him threaten the spider with violence only to turn around and defend it by attacking me so dishonorably with his mind tricks! Just remember who was helping you off that spider and who fought in its defense!"
"Know this, you're wrong. Claiming there are no slaves here when each of us is a slave to something, you most notably to your mind-swing. The thought that I would leave you alone with only friends I know, is laughable. Another thing, lose your temper again with me or any of us *Victory helicopters his right arm over his head* here on Captain Abez's skimmer and it won't be the only thing you lose. That's a promise."
Victory releases Pallia, looks to her feet and says "I promise I won't let him harm you" then turning to face the elves then the kreen and the spiderhugger "or any of you!"

Pallia lets herself be led around by Victory (not that she has much choice—compared to the powerful warrior, she's noodle-armed). Once he finally lets go she says soothingly, "It seems like the chaos of battle is engulfing us even without an enemy to fight. Tempers rise when we are threatened with uncertainty and with things that change without our understanding. Yet this half-giant hasn't killed any of us, has he? He may swing from contemplation to violence, but he seems to recognize the needs of the crew. Doubtless you've fought before with gladiators who were reckless, aggressive, quick to leap into battle, but if they were on your team, this could be an advantage—ready to take risks and become the vanguard, while the rest of the team follows up from behind; jumping to battle before an enemy can rear its head. HurK strikes me like this: Quick to leap into the fray, but just as quick to change tactics if his take on the situation demands it. And usually the best tactic with such warriors is to stay out of their way and let them conduct their warfare until the dust settles!"
"The spider seems to have given us some useful advice, maybe it's best to let it go on its way while we go on ours? If others of its kind can track us through the webs, and we kill one of them, we might just attract more enemies than we want."

The elves sigh, almost together.
"Look. We're all under a lot of stress. We've personally been denied our vengeance... for the moment." Comments Haske.
Yiska adds, "But we've come to terms with it. We're alive. We have our speech back." She nods directly at Hurk.
Her brother continues, "You guys have managed to deal with everything and still keep your kip so far. Drusso!"
The other elf looks up from the rudder.
"Break out the strong stuff. Today, we sing, drink and find shore. Right Abez?"
The captain grins hard.
"Make it so. It's been too long since we let loose. We'll ground at Samarah tonight."
The wind answers in turn, picking up with a howl and kicking up silt. The boat carries on.

"Thanks Pallia, Yiska and Haske. Yeah, let's get to Samarah..." The half giant begins helping with the sails and rigging as he's been taught.
