The crimson sun lies low in the west when you finally see a change to the desert environ amidst a sky-sea of purples and emerald greens. Sunset is an amazing thing today.
Beet-red paddle cacti are seen in greater numbers initially... in patches. Small lizards dart about, snapping up red grubs from patch-to-patch. If you were flying? It'd probably look like pox on the pale sands.
Followed by what looks to be an ancient town or outpost, ahead and to your left. Behind sandstone walls...? It looks like there maybe date trees.
The wind still deafens you with her agony. Cries of pain, torment and war respond on her breath.
Twin moons illumine this early evening, not quite full, but bright... even before the sun has properly set.

This is 2.5-3 hours after your encounter with Morveer & Day.
The end of a standard march (about 10 hours in 2e).

The moment the settlement is seen from their maximum vision range, HurK stops to lower himself so that everyone can get off.
He shifts back into his 36' B'rohg form while exhaustedly panting.
"That fire tattooed elf and friend best not disturb us tonight. I'm tired!" he says sleepily while grabbing his pack and unsheathing his overcompensator. [-111 PsP's]

Mak nods to Hurk. "They may. I suggest we make use of my magics to rest in 2 watch shifts, each only a single hour. Afterwhich we can all relax for a bit in the cool of the night before continuing our travels at sunrise. If we could clear the ruins, that would make an ideal defensive camp. If something decides to attack us at night, they'll face our full force at the ready."
He looks to the others. "Thoughts?"

He looks to the others. "Thoughts?"Hu'rohg nods to the little halfling, lays his massive blade on his shoulder then takes his group chevron position point and begins walking towards the walls and trees behind. --------------- Bob, let me know what I can see from my 36' elevation as we near the walls...

"Scanning."
Laakh will Detect Life in max range 100 yards @ 30 degree scan. He faces the ruins and turns his head to scope 90 degrees in 3 rounds. Score 16, Bob rolls.

Hurk holds up his light as the long shadows of sunset lengthen.
That's when the drums start. They add to the noise of the wind, finding beat in between the screams of air & dust.
Laahk detects life... multiple bodies. They seem to be moving relatively quickly. All are on the other side of the wall.
Hurk sees not ruins as he expected... but a heavily worn settlement. There are date trees and what look like evidence of other plant life on the other side of the wall. Squat buildings of sandstone and what might be lava rock... perhaps a few dozen. He thinks he sees some movement in and about the street, but he can't get a great look as they scatter for cover.
There is no visible gate from where you stand. But you are where the wind blows... There looks like there's two small watch towers to the east.
The wall is a solid 12 feet high on this side of the settlement.
A reminder that you've just finished a full day's march.

Mak calls out to the settlement in common. "HAIL!! Peaceful Travelers looking for shelter and trade!!", then quickly rummages out the white flag... again.

HurK shifts down to his normal 12' half giant size and shape but keeps his Metamorphosis power running. He tells the group what he's seen as he stows his great blade and gets dressed. Then leads the group towards the 2 eastern watch towers, clay light orb in hand, Mak's white flag raised high in the other.

- Kem gets ready for the unevitable case of combat - Could it be that the Balican forces reached this far? - She whispers around - Or maybe one of the wild tribes the humanoid traders warned us a while ago?

Laakh shut's down Detect Life and moves with the group, hands empty. Cloaked and goggled against the screaming wind.

Mak nods to Kem. "There is an oasis behind that wall. This isn't Balican. I don't think we're far enough into the desert for this to be a raider tribe, but let's be cautious just the same."

"STAY YEH OUTSIDE THE WALLS AN' STAHP ADVANCIN'!"
Calls an amplified voice as you get within 50 paces of the gates.
"GIVE US A REASON WHY WE AIN'T GONNA SPEAR YEH OVER OUR WALL AFTER WE TAKES ALL YER STUFF!"
There's a low growl of agreeance behind that voice.
"UNLESS YEH GOTS SOMEONE TEH VOUCH FER YEH? THINK YEH CAN TAKE ALL HUNNRED OF US?"
The drums get louder. A horn blows. Lights bloom behind the walls proper.
