Moktli stands calm and composed in que. It takes some effort.

"The Law! He wishes to know the Law! The Law is what our Ruler decrees." Rasps the odd hunched figure. The associate of House Maraneth next to him states, "The House follows these codes as well. It is of... erm, mutual beneficence. You were brought here, yes?"
Without waiting for answer he states, "You may either agree to the terms, the Laws and spend a year of your life here in Celik... or spend the rest of your days doing nothing but the most basic of tasks and no hope of salvation. You'd be divested of your weapons and..." He thinks a bit. "Pets. I do think you're the beastmaster correct? I assume you'd rather be of use than to see your animals sent to the arena in Balic?"

"Well?" He cocks an eyebrow.

Ibubesi finally manages to swallow the glob of phlegm that had formed in his throat, barely not spitting it on the floor in defiance of those before him.
"I swear, upon my honor and the beauty and power of the forest herself, to follow the terms and 'Laws' outlined here before me for one year; with option to renew if/as I wish."
(OoC: I LOVE how this website logs me out occasionally, but only tells me AFTER i've posted something long; Sigh...)

- Valmera follows each of the movements of the tattered robed figure with the eyes, listening to what they say and understanding the answers given to the rest of the party - Do this yearly alliance compels for any kind of tithe or duty from our side? I don't doubt the terms of the Law, I would just know a little bit more about - in a calm and polite tone of voice

Kem can hear some of what transpires, but has no great view currently.
The ragged man motions for you to move forward. Grabbing Ibubesi's wrist, it traces a half moon and then a circle over it. That's just the motion. There's no pigment or any cut to see. However...
You feel more aware. Looking at the clerk to his right, Ibubesi feels... comfort? Trust?
[You will find that any who have taken similar oaths - those of House Mareneth, will exude the same feeling. Within standard torch-light range.]
The clerk then states, "Exit to the left and you'll be given a tour of the barracks, Housemate."
The same follows the rest of your crew - those who wish to take an oath of servitude. Mark on your character sheets the Blessing of House Maraneth and the term of service you take. If anyone agrees to more than a year? Mark it specifically and I'll take whatever boons extended servitude brings.

- Valmera fits properly her belongings into her backpack and slowly moves ahead, awaiting to see if others accept this agreement

Moktli accepts with a nod. "One year, then Moktli fade into the winds." A year of killing things with a known bossman is better than killing things with no guarantee of pay and shelter.

Hawkings steps up next "if I may? Does the great Celik have a psionic school or a resident master of the way that trains students?" He asks

Baxby shivers a bit when he noticed the difference, then proceeds with the others. "One year...Yah."

Regarding psionic training:
The less-strange House associate replies. "There are some mentalists within our ranks, mainly beast-tenders. We also have... other resources to advance a psion's worth. That would require at the least a two year term of service. For it to be mutually beneficial, you see."
The tattered man next to him wheezes a slight, dry laugh under it's breath in return.

Ignoring the laugh, the halfling thinks a moment then clears his throat "Most halflings can live to be one hundred years old. If they're lucky 120. Since I'm already twenty years old... I pledge (he pauses for dramatic effect) one hundred years!"

The clerk smiles. "Life, then? You aren't the only one to pledge completely."
The ragged man traces the symbol on your wrist...
..but holds your arm tightly after. It shrugs off it's hood. A leathery face, tanned like jerky and two glowing pale green eyes are revealed as it grins as only the dead can smile.
"One hundred years it is. But if you expire before then? You will fill your service post-life, small blood."

The little pink haired spry fellow immediately adds forcefully "Provided I have full and unaltered use of my consciousness AND THE WAY. If that condition is met we have an accord!
I look forward to perhaps creating a great psionic school here one day."
