The caravan needed six hours to replentish itself - slightly before sundown.
They made their way back to the new city uneventfully. Your help was noted. Gossip from the caravan folk bestowed the following tidbits:
- The Greys always hit fast, but tended to not remain long. No one was ever able to track them to their source... this may be the tactic to whoever, or whatever directed them.
- There were other threats whispered. One that struck out was that of strange snakemen. Anyone missing from a trip through the abandoned streets was blamed on them... But not one description matches. Some were half-snake half-man, others mentioned women with snake eyes, and every other description in between.

Anyone not planning on meeting with the Binder on the morrow?

(The binder is the 3-ringed book in which the DM keeps his notes. But that's not important... ;-)
Actually I think the binder is probably the contracts guy.)
I guess we're all at least tagging along for the ride.

From Voi earlier:
"Cannae trust you to stay here 'til the wheel sets? And t'morrow? Any o' ya that want to join just need teh ask for the Binder. Someone will point ya in the right direction."
You assume he means those of the House when he mentioned someone to point you in the proper direction.

That following morning, you are led to a small, domed building to the northern end of the new city facing a second span of bridge leading across into the old city. On the way there, you can see the difference between the "two" Celiks so much better now having experienced the west side of the ruined city. The road here was cleaner. The people more relaxed - as well as any in Athas can ever relax that is. You can see where more recent fixes have been applied to the fronts... most of it being a clay or mud brick replacing a stone, or bone shunts or additions to the general architecture. Much like putting kohl-on-a-kip, these did little for the overall look, but were practical fixes. Necessary fixes.
The dome on the small stone abode was probably once painted light blue. But now? This building had little color and heavy fading. A small arched doorway, sans door itself, had perhaps a dozen potential retainers in que leading patiently within the structure. Some faded script is chiseled into the right side of the building itself, but the words are alien to you.
It takes perhaps 5 minutes for each person to advance in que.
What order would you like to take in line?

- The elf woman follows the broad dwarf, that one that fought in first line against the undead hordes, without expecting much of a good treat towards her, but at least enough recognition once in, to be left alone within these walls

Ibubesi is the first to regard the room, the situation.
The small stone chamber is set with half dozen sandstone bench seats. Three on each side, leading to a dias. To the right and left of the dias, two exits are seen. This is probably why you have not seen others leave - just enter...
You hope.
At the dias? Two figures, one hunched and wrapped in soiled gray rags and linens and a heavily obscured face. The other in the garb of House Maraneth, with the manner of a simple clerk. The unidentifiable one calls out,
"Who claims to aid Celik, bounty of the world? The teat at which all civilization suckles? Do you swear you alliance so? If so, state your name and the term of your service. Know that any deviance from your terms will exact the Law of Celik to the utmost extent..."
A dried, crooked finger is raised.
"...as a deserter of our armies would entail. A choice punishable by Death."
The non-veiled figure adds, "Terms are minimum of a year. Swear your allegiance now."

Hawkings nervously shifts his weight from one foot to the other, instinctually drawing forth the energies within his nexus in anticipation of the whole room exploding into a brawl
