Before they attempt to meditate, these two adventurers found a shared goal, both involving animals. Quila felt the need to bond with a pet, even though she was a with a new group of friends... these allegiances often did not last. This was a common desire among the half elven as they lacked a proper tribe to call family. Eslyk wished to learn to communicate with animals better, as befitting her status as a beast master. She had some notion of how to do this and talked to the brown robed masters on how she might "make room" mentally to develop such powers.
They suggested a psionic surgery to remove the memory of an unwanted boon. She decided that this was important enough to her and underwent the mind-knife so-to-speak. Luckily it was a success and she did not need a proper lobotomy after the procedure.
Ranging out north of Old Kurn, they camped for a few days and nights, getting to know the trail, tracks and spoor of the area's predators. The halfling would call out what animal she suspected and Quila would either nod or shake her head negative. Both women set out to speak in their own ways to nature. On one particularly dark evening, their fire drew the presence of a hunter. Eslyk was pretty certain it was a tagster, a male that ranged in the area. Throwing a piece of raw meat to the flank side it favored, she felt the contact of the psionic feline brush against her defenses. Instead of mentally attacking, she mentally psp-psp-psped and adopted a non-threatening posture.
Quila then dropped her guard as well and slowly poured a shallow bowl with water from her skin. Taking a few slow steps back, the hunter began to inch forward. Lapping up the water, Eslyk continued to mentally speak soothing words to the animal. A few minutes later, the unthinkable happened and the cat fell asleep within reach of the fire. A few scritches behind the beast's head and she could hear purrs.

They returned with the tagster in tow soon after. Studies began to hone their respective mental faculties, however Eslyk was too excited by the ability to contact animal minds as she'd done earlier to focus properly.
