Mak leads the others to the boat. He will share with them the experiences of the party as they hunted down the Necromancer. He'll listen to their tales of Bodach. Once at the boat he'll help check to make sure it is clear and safe then he'll offer the nap spell to any that wish to sleep. Anyone not sleeping will guard those that are along with Hurk.

Sure you may examine the orrery. But you feel that the necromancers may have used a spell, psionic ability or item to reach the rods as they are out of reach from the edge of the walls. You would have to do the same.
In Bodach...
Haske looks about nervously.
"Best we not say anything within sight of these walls, my friends."
Khuv nods wide-eyed and only adds, "I-i-it's n-not w-what you th-think!" He pauses and adds, "I agree with H-haske though."

The unseen servant invisibly flutters to the orrery. One of the bars moves slightly and a flash of white energy occurs! Once your eyes adjust, you can see the white bar has been only moved a third of the way out of the contraption...
And the servant does not seem to exist anymore, burnt out of existence.
The burn marks on Densis' corpse might have occured from similar actions.

Your read magic is still active. So looking upon the two rods shows you the spells burning hands and contingency. As for contingency, you get the general idea of how the spell functions.
As you read, the structure you currently stand in starts to slowly shake; tremble even. A faint, pitched keening comes from the orrery.
