Enemy's Slumber, 1st of Fortuary - Morning, 51 days since Oronis’ meeting
Current Locations: New Kurn
The month of Sedulous passes near uneventfully. Both Eslyk and Hurk continue their meditations, begging to stay uninterrupted for however long it takes to finish their reflections.
Quila is surprised by a visit from Scrye, an old friend from her travels to Celik. The tari is a special one, having delved deeper within the ruins of the half dead, half alive city in the deep south than most. Lately she believes that the ruins do not contain the roots of her people like she once believed, and seeks access to Kurn to peruse its library to look for clues to the lost homeland of her people. Luckily, Scrye remembered the dated passwords given to her by Quila and was quick to tell the templars in Old Kurn that she was a friend and ally of Quila, thus granting her expedient access to the otherwise secular City-State.
Your contacts in the Tribunal are a bit busier than normal, as Oronis has vanished for the time being. The general buzz is that he is somewhere secret and safe, studying the odd metal containers that you have retrieved from the Messenger.
Coden, Quila and Ande have had the chance to peruse the armoury for relics to help with their travels. Ande is granted a feathered headdress that acts as a mental battery, similar to that Hurk carries in practice - yet different as all relics tend to be.
Coden is asked if he has skill in the bow, and of course he is. It had been a while, but he recalls hunting the grounds of his family estate well before serving his time in the military. A beautiful longbow of elven make is presented, with a packed quiver of two dozen obsidian sheaf arrows. He is told that the arrows have been blessed by shaman of the winds to strike true, and are often doled out in defense of the City-State when aerial threats are spotted or when the Lances ride to defend the satellite villages of Kurn.
Quila is offered a flask of scented oil, along with a few words of advice.
“This was found in the Buried Ruins to the north west, by a scavenger who claimed that he had seen more in a tomb with a giant man made of solid sand. He escaped with this… which we’ve determined to provide protection from the effects of the realm of flame. Oronis himself told me to hand this to you and repeat this story, if you so wish to acquire more… assuming that the traveler’s tale is truth."
Other facts are divined given the amount of time spent, mostly by Niachi. A properly summoned or captured efreeti can be forced to serve for a maximum of 1,001 days, or it can be made to fulfill three wishes. Efreet are not willing servants and seek to pervert the intent of their masters by adhering to the letter of their commands. The efreet are said to be made of basalt, bronze, and solid flames. They have no direct magical resistance to weapons, but are said to be nearly impossible to kill or capture if not summoned. They are purported to have powers to shapechange, fly, turn invisible at will, turn into a cloud of smoke and of course produce many flame-centered attacks. Most famously is their power to gift wishes, but those of the plane of fire & flame tend to pervert these desires at any chance.
There is a note that there are varying ranks of efreeti. You are almost certain that Liandrin is considered nobility, which are likely stronger and have abilities beyond the ken of her lower ranked peers. One of those abilities could very well been the conflagration that struck Hurk in Nirid-Tohr.
Some history behind the amulet he received can be found as well, it too was located in the ruins of a tomb in the Buried Ruins to the north west, by a different explorer some time in the past. Divinations before have revealed it to have belonged to a fanatic cleric of fire named Surpanakha, who perished some 4,000 plus years ago.
