"That tower shield, might be worth an extra dose of oil. If we see a large and in charge Salamander Lord your size or bigger, if we can't make friends, take them out first. They destroy fire-proofing protections (gripping the amulet) as their specialty."

Thankfully due to the magical protections involved, the halfling still has a palate. You have perhaps around three hours of march before the oil wears off at this juncture.

How long is the tongues active?

You carry on across the rolls of fire and flame, whirlwinds of incineration and rises and falls of compressed elemental fury beneath your feet. The roar of the place is at time deafening. Fire-shaped like giant bats flutter randomly for a bit from your right as you walk hurriedly from the previous evening not-evening's camp. The elemental flame-kin bob to your left as they match your pace.

Attilius nods his understanding "Kill da big lizards first - got it. We's got another 3 hours or so, before da oil wears off. In 2 hours, let's break to re-cover ourselves."

- The Tari follows the group - "What happened in Myron's tomb was still in Athas, here we are in another plane, yet surely any fire-based spell would work, I'm not sure of other elemental ones or the Will may do."

So the main issue was that the conversation with the flamekin was originally before the caster's rememorized. But, in the spirit of communication and all, you can have your 8 minutes or so left to ask the fire elementals any other questions as you walk.

The first three hours of walking goes by uneventfully, outside of the random fiery denizen spotted about the inferno.

Do we reapply oil or focus on Niachi's medallion at this juncture?

'Muiko will continue to detail the vellum for as long as the Unseen Servant remains (2 hours, 40 minutes of total duration).

The elementals seem taken aback by the question.

"We constantly change, much like you... perhaps a bit quicker. The only thing ugly is when a fire dies down."

One of the smaller ones adds,

"I think the flame bats are quite pretty, maybe some day I'll reburn in their form."

Between the 2-2.5 hour mark, the giant looks for a hidden and/or defensible area/nook. He removes his pack and begins to apply the magical oil...

'Muiko will smudge the little one into background flames and add a flame bat soaring above the groups.  When Attilius stops to reapply oil, 'Muiko will cast Copy on the vellum and stash it.  As he prepares to present the original to the fire elementals, he will cast Spectral Force to make the small one reappear and the fire bat disappear.

"Here, our gratitude for your hospitality" he says as he presents the vellum to the assembled groups (keeping his fingers on the corners to prevent immolation).  As they lay their eyes on it, the small fire elemental will take fight into the fire bat.

"For you and yours" he says as places it in the hands of whichever one Quila points out as having been the primary speaker.  As he takes his hands away, I imagine it instantly immolates in their hands.

The being laughs, sparks coming out of it's "mouth".

"That was a fun burn. Never lit something that fragile before!"

It begins to stare hard at your other possessions. Oof.

The oil is reapplied without interruption. What. Do you think I'll just drop an efreeti army on you?

Travel begins again. Seven total hours after camp, another pulse encompasses your protective bubble.

Are we in any sense nearer to the egg fields of the salamanders or the volcano?
We are now on four pulses of travel time total, right?
