"Will you set me free from this canopic?" The spirit simply asks.

Mak answers bluntly, "I haven't decided yet. On principle, I am against your imprisonment and believe you deserve freedom. On prudence, I wouldn't unlock a tembo's cage while standing in the doorway and I think we both know you are more dangerous than a pack of ravenous tembo."
"My turn. 2 questions. Then you may ask 2 more of your own if you wish."
"Question One: Tell me what secrets you divulged to Gallard either directly or through his servant Manion Shom."
((Mak will wait until this question is answered fully before moving to the next question.))
"Question Two: I meditated over the ashes of Narakasura and watched the obsidian wave spread across the land, the one that turned you into Zhen. After all these millenia, what have you learned about what caused this catastrophe and what long term changes have occurred to the land?"

"Question One: Tell me what secrets you divulged to Gallard either directly or through his servant Manion Shom."
"He wished to know of the studies that were being done for the First Sorcerer. I had little knowledge to give him on that matter, Narakasura may have known more during his life... but only because of his familial ties. We spoke of necromancy. Of my bonds being severed from the Flame. He wished to know of Harkor and our numbers, composition and of truces made with Borys the Ascended after our reanimation. I told him *some* of what I knew, in spite of the wracking of my spirit."
"Question Two: I meditated over the ashed of Narakasura and watched the obsidian wave spread across the land, the one that turned you into Zhen. After all these millenia, what have you learned about what caused this catastrophe and what long term changes have occurred to the land?"
"We learned little. We mined the realm for bodies and hands as the threat of the south loomed. Other pacts were made and broken. Why? How?" You imagine a mental shrug. "It matters not. Build. Destroy. Rebuild. Hold onto any filament of independence. This is to be Zhen."
"What is a tembo?"

Mak smiles, "I won't count that as one of your 2 questions. A tembo is a dangerous predator, it's bite has life draining characteristics similar to some undead yet it is a living creature. a quadruped with vicious claws. It's also quite intelligent, more so than most beasts found in the wilds. It's universally feared and hated because of its preference for stalking and eating children."
"Now, what questions do you have for me?"

"Is the Stone King aware of our communion? I need assurance that I will not be returned to his... focus."
"I fear I trust little as you may be his proxy. How can you prove your non-allegiance to Gallard?"

"I'm not sure of what he is or is not aware of. He is aware that your urns have been pilfered from the hidden vault he stored you away in. I am told that he has tasked his son with your retrieval. We've defeated some divination magics so far, but I don't know how long it will be before more powerful magics are brought to bear against us."
"I cannot, other than to answer your questions honestly and without hesitation. I am not a clever trickster and would likely get tripped up on my own lies if I attempted to deceive you."
"My turn."
"If Harkor trapped you in these urns, only to release you during his time of war, how did he return you once again to these urns? By what compulsion do you remain a prisoner in this urn?"
"If I were to free you on the morrow and could travel to any location within moments to do so, where would you prefer to be released? In the Southern Kingdoms where you are from? Here? In the Stone City to have your revenge? Where would you have me release you when it is time?"

"If Harkor trapped you in these urns, only to release you during his time of war, how did he return you once again to these urns? By what compulsion do you remain a prisoner in this urn?"
Laughter. Not harsh like before, but as genuine a long undead spirit can muster.
"We fight. Bicker. Have you ever had children, Lahr O'Ghav? That is often how Harkor views his charge. We spirits are the strongest of his subjects. This... this is control. He built these urns and ordered us inside... as we wait, stewing & ready to lash at whatever threat he has deemed worthy of our wrath."
"If I were to free you on the morrow and could travel to any location within moments to do so, where would you prefer to be released? In the Southern Kingdoms where you are from? Here? In the Stone City to have your revenge? Where would you have me release you when it is time?"
"You could free me anywhere, as long as Harkor or Gallard had no access to the urn or my remains within. I would make my way to deal with my own matters. I would simply ask that you scatter my ashes and smash the urn - or drop it into the sea."

"What of Narakasura? Should he be freed? Should you be freed separately or together?

"Do what you will... but I would like to be freed first if that is of any consequence. He came late to the faith in life. And his passion, while once strong? Well, it has probably turned sour instead of growing better with age. Weak iron produces brittle steel."

HurK whispers with his eyes closed "Ask her if she'll help us defeat the Ssurlons in return for scattering her ashes and smashing the urn..."

When the elements rejected you, did you also turn to the black as a source of power? How does that work exactly?"

"I still regard the Flame as what defined me in life. Others took to the powers given to them from the glass as more holy. It matters little and I never TURNED to the plain for power. It was simply there. Like a bird... can you question how it knows to fly? That is as far as I understand it. Narakasura just does what he's always done. Capitalize without direction. He is a fire with no purpose; a burn with no intent to regrow. Understand?"
She pauses.
"I do enjoy this talk, mortal."

I also find this conversation... surprisingly pleasing."
"When I first heard nature's call, I journeyed many days through the wilderness. Areas my people hold as forbidden. In a place where the scrub plains meet the rocky badlands there is an area of open volcanic activity and hot springs. It is in that place that I first communed with nature and found my purpose. As Fire was found in abundance there, I draw mostly from its power when I tap the elemental planes. For this devotion... among my own people I am a pariah. Which is just as well, I guess. It is nice to speak with one that understands the Flame."
"Another question has crossed my mind. You Spoke of an alliance with Borys the Ascended. I know of a great Dragon named Borys. What were the terms of Harkor's alliance with him? If I had information about Borys' current activity, would that be something of interest to you?"

"Yes. I would be reticent upon my release if I thought you could, can and continue to provide such secrets. Yes. Borys is the Dragon. The Dragon is Borys. He once demonstrated his power and made it clear we were to keep to our interests within our ebon borders. Then again, we were all aware of the First Sorcerer's might as well. As long as He represented his Master's whims? We respected the power and kept to our own."

"The city once known as Tyr-agi, the place now called Tyr. It has lost its leader. I am not aware of the circumstances, but I do know that Borys has used great portals to send his forces to take control of the city. I have personally spoken to a refugee from that place and gotten his detailed account first hand. This has happened very recently. Maybe a few weeks ago at most."
"You've now spoken twice about this 'First Sorcerer'. One who Borys the Dragon serves. Gallard, now called Nibenay, I know of. Harkor, your king, I have heard of. I am not aware of this First Sorcerer, tell me of him?"
