Assuming the 2 elves didn't see any movement to our rear and flanks, HurK focuses on his nexus to visualize future vibrations and arcane auras, then moves to take a Vangard position.
[See Magic 19, rolled 15 (20' range) Probability Manipulation 16, rolled 4 (+20%/+4 bonus to one roll, 1 turn duration) PsP's: -42]
He briefly puts his light orb into his closed fist then speaks low "We move as a chevron. I'm point. Standard bearer, five feet to my left, Kri-kcht, ten feet to my right. Everyone else, fall in wedge formation evenly behind them, ten feet apart. Keep your eyes on any sand moving before you. Everyone focus fire on magic users and Psions. I'll handle the melee combatants..."
The jet black B'rohg pops the light orb back into his incisors and moves forward towards the closed portal when the group lines up...

Kri-kcht just nods and falls in line and readies his weapons. Gythka in two claws and one chatkcha and his bola's in the other two. Antennas on 'sharp'.
(Ooc: do facetted insectoid eyes in game see more than humanoid eyes? )

If success: -8 PSPs, can detect everything in 100 yards.

Mak presses his head against that of his mount, moments before it takes flight. Then Mak steps behind a rock and vanishes, secretly calling to nearby animals to aid him using his magic.
((Pterrax establishes a mindlink with Mak before taking flight, heading to backup Hurk & Co.
Mak conceals himself within his guarded lands, and casts Animal Summoning I, trying to summon 8 wild crodlu from the nearby area.))

Well. No life, magic or other things are immediately detected. It may be the range though.
Kreen eyes are no better than human - if a little different on the subject of compounded-ness. You have slightly better detection due to antennae, but it's no infravision.
You get within the area you believed the portal to have stood. Your light reveals one odd detail. A half-smoked butt of a thin cigar lays on the ground, still slightly smoldering. Behind it? Broken earth as far as the eye sees to the south. A few dark shapes can be seen fluttering high above in the moonlight (also to the south). Mak would be able to inform the others that they are most likely bats or even the pakubrazi that are said to frequent the area.
There is no evidence of living creatures... at least at the current level of scrutiny.
And then the crodlu Mak summoned begin to arrive.

"Kri-kcht can you see if there are any fresh tracks near this cigar?"
Hurk moves to keep the incoming crodlu at bay so that they don't create new tracks in the immediate area

Laakh tightens his life scan down the path of broken earth to max range 30 degrees at 100 yards, stubs out the cigar stub and pockets it. He searches within to guide his next steps.
Object Reading on the cigar: score 15, roll 10: all information of its *last*owner. Safe Path: score 15, roll 13 success. PSPs: 59

"Must've teleported away. Anyone using a skilled psion to scry on us can easily afford someone with psychoportive powers as well," suggests Pallia as she tries to keep the banner aloft.

Mak calls out to the Crodlu to circle and hunt for any humanoids not part of his party, sending the creatures out in the 8 cardinal directions from the general location of the gate area. Mak will speak to the plants near the gate location, asking them what happened to the people who stepped through the light that was here.
Pterrax is going to do a flyby of the gate location while manifesting the Life Detection power.

With the extra light, Kri-kcht looks for tracks around the spot where the sigar stub was found. The place is probably very much trampled on and he widens his search a bit.
(Ooc rolled an 11 for Tracking)
